about ERNST KIRCHNER

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner didn't paint the world as it was. He painted it as it felt.

As a founding member of Die Brücke, he and his fellow rebels built a bridge between polished academic art and something rawer, more honest, more alive. His Berlin street scenes are among the most psychologically charged images in modern art - angular figures, fractured spaces, electric colour doing the emotional heavy lifting that polite society refused to acknowledge.

The Nazis labelled his work degenerate art and destroyed pieces he'd spent his life creating. The work endured anyway.

Bold. Visceral. Emotionally fearless. Kirchner used colour like a weapon, a confession, and a battle cry.
