Gallery Wall Ideas & Layout Inspiration
Not sure where to start? We've done the hard work for you. But, if you're feeling brave and want to curate your own collection, to match your personality, these layouts are some of our 'tried and true' favourites. Read our complete gallery wall guide for step-by-step tips on choosing artwork, planning layouts, and hanging with confidence.
• Spacing
1–2 finger-widths. You’re curating a gallery wall, not defusing a bomb.
Trust your eye. Keep the gaps deliberately consistent - messy chic, not messy-messy.
• Start from centre
Begin at the heart of the layout (eye level: 145–155cm).
Everything radiates from the anchor piece - it’s the diva, the rest are backup dancers.
• Mix your frames
Matching frames are… fine.
But mismatched frames? That’s personality. That’s rebellion. That’s “I collect art, darling” energy - even if you bought the whole curated set yesterday.
• Plan before you hang
Paper templates first. Masking tape everywhere.
Move pieces around like an unhinged art director until it clicks. Then - and only then - reach for the nails.
• Mind the furniture
If you’re hanging above a sofa or console, keep the bottom piece 15-25cm above it.
Close enough to feel intentional.
Far enough to avoid “my gallery wall is sitting on the sofa.”
