about EGON SCHIELE

Egon Schiele lived like a comet... brilliant, fast, and gone at twenty-eight.

Three thousand works in a decade. Raw, angular figures. Psychological nakedness. Lines that vibrate with nervous energy. He arrived at the Vienna Academy already too good for it, briefly fell under Klimt's spell, then shed it entirely to create something no one had seen before.

Vienna wasn't grateful. He was controversial, imprisoned, and gleefully refused to pander to respectable society. Then the Spanish flu took him - three days after it took his wife.

The art endured. It always does when it's this good.
